Build the frame with 2x4s and wood screws. Fabric i used this one. Before attaching it to the bench i used my ryobi corner cat sander to go over the edges of the bench.
The batting helps to hold the foam in place and gives a little shape and cushion to the foam before you add the fabric. Wherever you put the vaseline the paint will just sand right off. Assuming you have the necessary tools on hand the materials should cost you around 70 to build a 66 x 24 bench.
Use the kreg drill bit screws and glue to assemble the bench. Measure to find the center of the newly upholstered lid. Align the center marks of the lid and the piano hinge.
